Ramayana 2K4 Review Highlights

" ... loaded with acrobatic tricks and visual spectacle. it's the love-child of Cirque du Soleil and The Lion King. " - PiaCatton, The New York Sun

" ... plenty to dazzle the eye and ear."
Neil Genzlinger, The New York Times

" ... a visual feast. A lively athletic spectacleset to a pulsating electronic score. I've seen a number of interpretations of the Ramayana over the years. But never have I experienced one as visually and aurally sumptuous as this. Stylish and sexy, it's a successful adaptation of a classic myth that retains the talefs epic qualities while giving it a broader-based appeal." - Dan Bacalzo,TheatreMania

Ramayana 2K3, a new performance piece at LaMaMa E.T.C. by a super-hot troupe Fabulous Monsters that's got the downtown crowd buzzing. -Broadway.com

"artfully executed, dazzles with spectacle. Prior's gorgeous costumes and sinister masks look great on his 18-person cast."
-Sandra Ross, LA Weekly

"A daring depiction of the ancient Hindu epic. An over the edge hypnotic ultra theatrical experience of contemporary music, dance, and drama." -Astha Singhal, Hollywood Masala.com

Writer-director Robert A. Prior's Fabulous Monsters expand on their old tricks of lavish costumes (by Prior), shadow puppets, Stephen Hues' swaying, callisthenic choreography and actors arriving from ceiling beams and slithering down ropes to enact Valmiki's 2,000-year-old poem. The energy and design are beyond reproach. You wonft find anything else in town quite like this. -Steven Leigh Morris, LA Weekly
